Describe the Bug
I regularly switch to modes like Ask where edit_tool access is denied to the model. But the model doesn’t realise this, tries to make edits and gets confused. This is frustrating because it often means the agent fails to do what I asked – for example it fails to answer the question.
Steps to Reproduce
- open a medium-sized repo
- ask the model to make some edits
- Switch to Ask mode
- use Gemini 2.5 Pro
- ask it a question
Expected Behavior
I should just receive an answer. The model should not try to edit files.
