Agent Mode-Specific Default Model Saving

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

Hello Cursor Community,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to propose a quality-of-life feature improvement that I believe would significantly enhance the workflow for many users, including myself.

Currently, Cursor offers different Agent Modes (such as plan, agent, ask, etc.) and allows users to switch between various AI models using the Switch Model feature.

:memo: The Proposal
I suggest implementing a feature where the last-selected AI model is automatically saved and set as the default model for each specific Agent Mode.

:bullseye: Rationale
The reason for this suggestion is that, in practice, users often have a preferred and relatively fixed AI model that they consistently use for each distinct Agent Mode.

For example, a user might find that Model A is ideal for the detailed planning required in the plan mode, while Model B is more efficient for quick interactions in the ask mode.

Currently, if I switch from the plan mode (where I used Model A) to the ask mode, I must manually switch the model to my preferred Model B for ask. When I return to plan, I must manually switch back to Model A.

By having the default model automatically stored for each Agent Mode, users would avoid the repetitive step of manually switching models every time they change modes, leading to a much smoother and more focused coding experience.

Thank you for considering this suggestion. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this potential enhancement.

Best regards, Jaecheol.
