Agents list keeps the orange needs-input dot after the chat has finished

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

In the Agents list, a finished local chat keeps the solid orange dot. A neighboring chat that really has a running job shows the separate working mark, and that mark is correct.

Cursor’s own definition is that the orange dot means the chat is waiting for input, and the other mark means it is working. This chat was not waiting. Its turn had ended, it had not asked a question, and it had no approval pending. Its terminals were not running. The row still showed the orange dot, with the age “6m”.

This is not the tracked “Finished agents still show as Working” report, which is about the working spinner and the Working pill:

It is also the opposite of the report where a session that needs confirmation keeps the working mark instead of the orange dot:

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Finish an Agent chat so its turn has ended, with no question and no approval pending, and with no terminal left running.
  2. Leave another Agent chat actually running.
  3. Look at the Agents list without sending a new message.

Expected Behavior

The finished chat does not show the orange dot. The chat with a live job keeps the working mark.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @yasuyuki_inoue,

You’re right that this is a different issue from the two threads you linked. The first is about the spinner staying on finished agents. The second was the opposite problem (no orange dot while a subagent waited for approval), and that one was fixed in 3.16.

What you’re seeing is the Agents list holding on to a saved “waiting on you” state for that chat after it finished. The “Formal verification task” chat looks like it was run as a task for another chat, and that kind of chat is where this state seems most likely to get left behind. The chat itself really did finish, as you said. I’ve flagged this to the team.

In the meantime, two things that may clear the dot:

  1. Open that chat, then click a different chat.
  2. If the dot is still there, right-click the row and archive it. Its work is done, so nothing is lost.

To help narrow it down, could you tell me:

  1. Does the orange dot stay while that chat is open and selected?
  2. Does it survive a window reload (Ctrl+Shift+P, then “Developer: Reload Window”)?
  3. When you open the chat, do you see any approval card, question, or “Plan” pill anywhere in it?
