Agents Window Agents using incorrect models/modes despite explicit model selection

Steps to Reproduce

  • Open Agents Window, click “New Agent”, select model e.g. Composer 2, regular, Max mode off.
  • Prompt agent.
  • Check https://cursor.com/dashboard/usage
  • Usage shows Auto or Max mode.

Expected Behavior

  • Open Agents Window, click “New Agent”, select model e.g. Composer 2, regular, Max mode off.
  • Prompt agent.
  • Check https://cursor.com/dashboard/usage
  • Usage shows Composer 2 (or the model selected when prompting)

Hey, thanks for the detailed report with the request IDs.

This is a confirmed bug. Agents Window sometimes doesn’t pass the selected model correctly, so the request goes through Auto instead of Composer 2. Out of your two requests, one was handled correctly and the other wasn’t. The bug is intermittent.

The team is aware. There have already been a few fixes in this area, but the issue showed up again in Cursor 3. There’s no ETA yet, but your report helps us prioritize it.

Workaround: before sending your prompt, double-check that the model in the picker hasn’t reset. If it has, switch it back again.
