I just restarted and all my chat histories are gone. I see only the cloud agent histories. I assume it’s a bug, i think it updated itself.
Also why is state.vscdb is 6.8GB + another 6.8 for the backup (globalstorage)?
thanks

Hi @bananacy Thanks for reporting! We have a bug report open on this and I’ve added your experience there. Just curious, did the chats reappear, or are your old chats permanently gone from the sidebar?
Also, I do have some advice on the large size of state.vscdb:
Can you try running this:
Can you try to run control+shift+P - Developer: Delete Old Chats
Lets you pick a cutoff (e.g. chats older than 30 days) and bulk-deletes them. This should clean up older chats and free up space in your database.
Let me know if this doesn’t help and we can explore other options, but I think this will work.
Yes they all gone.
But why would chats be 6 gb? That’s a lot of space for text. . I’ll try the chat clear tomorrow and let you know.

“No chats older than 30 days found.”
Hi @bananacy
Cursor stores local chat and agent history in a local database, and that can include more than just the visible text in the sidebar: longer conversations, tool outputs, context metadata, edits/diffs, and workspace associations can all add up over time. So if you’ve had lots of long-running chats or agent sessions, the database can grow quite a bit.
6GB is a lot, but it’s not unheard of, especially if you’re a power user.
