Background Agent - Git connexion

Hi, when i want to start a background agent i have the error : Git Not Initialized

The background agent requires a Git repository. Please initialize Git in this repository.

But, i correctly connect github in my ide and in cursor web settings.

I miss something ?
Also when i enter in the background agents setup, i correctly connect to github but i have a error after :

[Status] Creating default environment… (Attempt 3/3) (Request ID: de22a12c-1722-428e-bd59-cbafbdbcf2e7)
[Error] Failed to create default environment after 3 attempts: No remote ref found
[STATUS UPDATE] failed

I dont understand the issue.
Thanks for your help.

i have this same problem even after even after linking git everywhere, background agents was working fine a couple days ago ? very frustrating.

Suddenly stopped working here as well.

I mag etting the same thing here. Running on Amazon Linux, it never worked for me and I am connected to GH everywhere.

This issue started to happen with us on Windows today. We were previously able to run Background Agents just fine.

Interestingly, we also get a “No environment.json” warning as well too–even though we indeed have a environment.json file at .cursor/environment.json. This is the first time we are seeing this warning as well.

Im encountering the same issue, Windows only, MacOS seems to be working but not Windows

same here

Same issue here. Anyone anything?

Windows builds received the Background Agents after macOS, so I think its fair to presume they’re implemented differently.

Can confirm I’m seeing the same; macOS fine, Windows complains about the GitHub connection.

Same issue here on windows 11

Since this feature was released, I’ve tried to use it, but it keeps saying ‘Git not initialized’ and shows a bunch of build failed errors. If there’s a solution, please share the link, thanks

Hey team, sorry to hear a few of you are having issues getting Background Agent up and running.

I’ve forwarded this to the team to hopefully look into shortly!

I’m receiving the same error as well, my Git account is connected and the code is in the repo.
Running v1.1.2

To clarify, are you seeing this git not initialized error?

Yes, exactly the same error

I’m getting the same error on MacOS:

I figured this out. I had cursor connected to the wrong GitHub org. I also had the project in a folder containing the letter “Å”, so I had to move it out to another folder to solve this.
