Background Agent "No Git Remote" Error Despite Connected GitHub Repo

Describe the Bug

When trying to use the background agent feature, I get a “No Git Remote” error message despite having already connected Cursor to my GitHub repository and added git remote origin to my project. The error states: “The background agent requires the Git repository to be hosted on GitHub. Please add a remote to your Git repository and try again.”

I’ve tried disconnecting/reconnecting github, new projects with new repos and restarting Cursor.

I’d really love to try out this feature! Is there anything else I might be missing or doing wrong on my end? Thanks for any help!

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Connect Cursor to GitHub repository
  2. Add git remote origin to the project
  3. Attempt to use the background agent feature
  4. Receive “No Git Remote” error despite proper GitHub connection and remote configuration
