Cannot open Chat Window

They moved chat to editor and then the pane is always empty until you move editor back

• This happens if the Chat pane opens empty. You would be able to see the right pane but without any chat inside. press CMD P to open command field, type > and paste Open Compose as Pane then launch it. it will move chat back to the right pane.

• Too many chats in history, needed to export chat to md files and clear history.

• This happens if Cursor gets slow or crashes or cant open chat. The chat history can be backed up using following extension. Then you can rename project and open it in cursor. This will cause the history to be wiped for that project and its clean. Some had this issue that prevented them from using chat.

others had issues with vscode/cursor cache (opening new project where chat works confirmed that)

If you open a new project (or create new project and open in new window in cursor), does the chat show there? If yes, then the project itself has an issue.
Otherwise clearing the cache helps.

Additional:

• Indexing issues. check if indexing works and restart it.

• Docu issues. check if some docus have errors, removing and re-adding them helped some users.

Cursor 0.47.5 Using Lots of Resources ... Issue?

Update here; One of the issues is with docs that get stuck into a bad state. If anyone is encountering issues, can you try going to Cursor Settings → Features → Docs and deleting the indexed docs? Especially if they’re stuck in a yello/maintaining/updating state
