Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?
Cursor IDE
Describe the Bug
After updating to the latest version, Cursor Chat cannot open or load in older projects that already have chat history.
New projects can open Chat normally.
Additionally, the “Recent Projects” list appears cleared after the update.
Environment
Cursor Version: 1.7.52 (user setup)
VSCode Version (base): 1.99.3
Commit: 9675251a06b1314d50ff34b0cbe5109b78f848c0
Build Date: 2025-10-17T01:41:03.967Z
Electron: 34.5.8
Chromium: 132.0.6834.210
Node.js: 20.19.1
V8: 13.2.152.41-electron.0
OS: Windows_NT x64 10.0.26200
Impact
Severity: High — Unable to access existing chat history in active/ongoing projects.
Scope: All older projects (with prior chat history). Newly created projects are unaffected.
Regression: Yes — Chat worked before this update.
Expected Behavior
Cursor Chat pane opens and loads the relevant history across all projects (old or new).
Recent Projects should retain previously opened workspaces.
Actual Behavior
In older projects: Chat pane does not open or opens but fails to load history.
In new projects: Chat works as expected.
Recent Projects: list appears empty/reset after the update.
Reproduction Steps
Update Cursor to 1.7.52 (user setup).
Open an older project that previously used Cursor Chat and has history.
Open Chat/Compose (via icon, or Command Palette → > Open Compose as Pane).
Observe: pane does not appear or appears but never loads the chat history.
Create/open a new project → Chat loads normally.
Check Recent Projects → list is missing previous entries.
Frequency
100% reproducible on my machine.
