Cant load Cursor since updating - **The window terminated unexpectedly (reason: 'crashed', code: '5')**

On mac since updating, I haven’t been able to send one prompt without the application crashing

The window terminated unexpectedly (reason: ‘crashed’, code: ‘5’)

This is impossible to use, can crash within 10 seconds but averages about 5 seconds before crashing

is there nothing that can be done??

this is crazy to me

Hey, this error has appeared for many users recently. Try clearing the cache or reinstalling Cursor.

Will I lose any knowledge or history if i do this?

If you completely reinstall Cursor, your history and saved notepads will disappear.

clearing cache did not work at all

Which version of Cursor are you using?

my cpu is nearly 200% when i send a message to chat

i had zero issues before updating

I think one of the reasons is that you have a lot of chat history. Try opening another project or creating a new one and see how it goes. If you need all your chat history, you can save it in markdown files using this extension:

it was so sudden though, never had a crash, updated then cant work for more then a minute without a crash since

i deleted some old chats and no difference

It seems to be because of the larger context window of Sonnet 3.7. I am happy to let go of my chat history. But I’m finding it impossible to get rid of the chat history. Where is it actually stored? I’ve repeatedly uninstalled and installed cursor (and even VScode) but that doesn’t seem to get rid of it. I also can’t “start new chat” because clicking that immediately crashes Cursor.

Other projects (pre-sonnet 3.7) seem to work fine.

Having the same issue since a couple of hours ago. Crashing after every 2-3 minutes of work (pretty much impossible to use it at this point).

Is there a way to clear only the history/index/etc. for a single project?

Yes, I would also like this. Right now cursor won’t even run for long enough for me to start a new chat before crashing. Totally unusable.

I experience the same issue. Cursor app keeps crashing.

OK - i’ve gone through as many of the forum threads here about this issue, I’ve even asked in the project why it keeps crashing and gave some opinions about the size of a page i was building but it tried to fix…now keeps crashing without even adding a command.

Has anyone actually found a fix for this? I would like to not lose chat history…but if I have to…help?

Reset the chatbox will be fine.

I downloaded the 0.45 version for arm (not universal), and it fixed the issue.

I have tried every method from the forums, but none of them work. A previously working system is now broken. Will a new update fix it?

I’ve been experiencing constant crashes while using Cursor ever since the latest update. I’m on an Apple M4 Mac Mini (24GB RAM) running macOS Sequoia 15.3.1, and before this update, everything was working just fine. Now, the app crashes almost every second, making it completely unusable.

Even trying to report the issue within Cursor causes it to crash repeatedly. I’ve checked with friends who also have M4 Mac Minis, and they are facing the same problem, so it looks like a broader issue.

Been having this issue as well. It’s made cursor pretty much unusable. Anybody know where the DOCS folder is? I want to create a backup before I try uninstalling / reinstalling cursor. It seems like the .cursor folder was removed from my project folder on crash as well.
