Can't reach your computer, Reset fails - New user

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Grogbot can’t reach the computer. I tried to recover it and I got a “Recover failed” popup after waiting for a while. Then I tried to reset the computer from the settings and got a “Reset failed” popup as well. I just paid for grok and it’s a fresh installation. I’ve not used it before.

If possible, can you reset the entire Grogbot computer from the back end?

Steps to Reproduce

Not sure, I’m a fresh user with a brand new account and installation.

Expected Behavior

I suppose it’s supposed to be able to connect to the computer.

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, thanks for the detailed report. Here’s the good news right away: on our side, everything looks fine with your account and computer. Every Recover and Reset actually completed on the backend. Only the last step fails, where the Windows app connects to the actual Grok Bot computer.

What’s happening: the app can reach our servers, but your network’s DNS can’t resolve the address the app uses to connect to the Grok Bot computer (it lives at cursorvm.com). This lookup happens on your side, so reinstalling, Reset, Recover, or a reset from our side won’t change anything. A rebuilt computer will get an address in the same zone. Please stop clicking Recover or Reset for now, each click just rebuilds the computer again without helping.

Try this on Windows:

  1. Fully close Grok Bot: right-click the system tray icon (near the clock) and click Quit.
  2. Windows Settings > Network & internet > select your connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
  3. Next to DNS server assignment, click Edit > Manual > turn on IPv4 > Preferred DNS: 1.1.1.1, Alternate DNS: 8.8.8.8 > Save.
  4. Open PowerShell and run: ipconfig /flushdns
  5. Launch Grok Bot again and give it a couple of minutes.

For Android on the same network: Settings > Network & internet > Private DNS > Private DNS provider hostname > enter dns.google > Save, then reopen Grok Bot.

Quick way to confirm it’s DNS: try running Grok Bot on a different network, like mobile data from another carrier or a different Wi-Fi. If it connects there, then the issue is your current network’s DNS.

Let me know how it goes after step 5. If it still won’t connect, tell me and we’ll dig deeper.

Thanks Dean! You’re the best! That worked! :clinking_beer_mugs:
