Chat and composer instantly fail and reset (unable to use cursor)

Steps to reproduce (happens on any workspace, suddenly started today):

  1. Open cursor chat/composer
  2. Type a message
  3. Press enter/click submit
  4. Chat appears to start working, but then instantly closes. Errors appear in dev console.

Console errors:

Cursor/system:
Version: 0.45.8
VSCode Version: 1.96.2
Commit: 5af2d34c39df93a39bd54c9b9103cab514b380f0

Electron: 32.2.6
Chromium: 128.0.6613.186
Node.js: 20.18.1
V8: 12.8.374.38-electron.0
OS: Darwin arm64 23.4.0

What I’ve tried so far:

  1. Quitting/reopening
  2. Reinstalling cursor without deleting settings and ~/.cursor
  3. Wiped all cursor app data and settings, reinstalled

Since posting:

  1. Can’t log in to cursor (and it was asking me to upgrade to pro, but I’ve been a pro user for months and the web-based account pages confirm that I’m a pro user)
  2. Cmd+K editing was working intermittently, but has since stopped working since the login issue started.

Is Cursor having an outage right now? I’m can’t log in on a fresh install and seeing certificate errors in the logs + in chrome when I open the URL.

Update: using a VPN appears to have fixed things for me
