Chat composer shows vertical scrollbar when input is empty

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

In the Agent chat composer, a vertical scrollbar appears even when the input is completely empty (only placeholder text is shown). The field is still one-line tall, so there is nothing that should overflow. This looks like an overflow/auto-height miscalculation in the composer textarea.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Cursor IDE Agent/Chat panel.
  2. Start a new chat (or clear the composer so it is empty).
  3. Focus the bottom input; leave it empty so only the placeholder is visible (“Plan, Build, / for skills, @ for context”).
  4. Observe the right edge of the composer.

Expected Behavior

When the composer is empty / single-line, no vertical scrollbar should be shown. The scrollbar should only appear once content actually overflows the composer height.

Additional Information

UI-only cosmetic/layout bug; does not block typing. Screenshot attached shows empty composer with placeholder + Agent/Auto controls, and a visible vertical scrollbar thumb on the right.

Likely cause: composer textarea overflow-y is set to auto/scroll while computed content height is slightly larger than the visible area (e.g. line-height / padding / control-bar layout mismatch), so the browser shows a scrollbar even with zero user text.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey!

Nice catch. Will be fixed in 3.21.
