Claude code integration in Cursor stopped working after updates on 21.11

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Hi,

Have Claude code plugin within the Cursor. Worked fine until Friday, when a Cursor update occurred. The Claude icon (in the top-right corner of the text window) disappeared. Also, updating and accepting text generated by Claude-code stopped working.
I am wondering if this is intended (why would one use claude in cursor?) or if you planning an update to cursor soon to get it working as before?

Steps to Reproduce

Have the Claude code extension installed in the cursor version pushed before 21.11, and update the cursor on 21.11.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, thanks for the report.

Icon disappeared: this was an intentional change in Cursor 2.1. You can bring it back:

  • Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the editor
  • Select “Configure Icon Visibility”
  • Check the boxes for the icons you want to show

More details here:

Code acceptance not working: this is likely a compatibility issue between the Claude Code extension and the new VSCode version (1.105.1) used in Cursor 2.1.20. I’d recommend:

  • Check if Claude Code has an update available in Extensions
  • If not, open an issue in the Claude Code GitHub repository so they can update it for the new version

Let me know if restoring the icon helps.

What is the reason for this change? Is it to put other coding agents to a disadvantage?

Can’t help feeling that this change was intentional and in bad-faith. Caused me a lot of friction and wasted my time until I found this thread.

I’m a Claude code and a Cursor user (both paid) but have been using Claude code more frequently as of late because of a work subscription (but still in cursor). Out of frustration this change almost pushed me back to just using regular VsCode and I’m sure many other users feel the same.
