Clear All Chats And No Close All Chats?

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

This feature is very frustrating. When I am in the Cursor chat (Composer?) I often have 6+ chats open and when I am moving quickly I want to close all of these chats to clear clutter and I end up hitting ‘Clear All Chats’ when expecting the ‘Close All Chats’ functionality. This apparently empties the chat database for my entire project and I lose all context?

This is very frustrating since I’m not seeing a way to recover my chats and I always end up needing to go back to reference them.

Steps to Reproduce

Right click a chat → Clear All Chats

Expected Behavior

Close All Chats or at least show a modal warning the user all chats will be erased/trashed

Operating System

MacOS

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. The “Clear All Chats” feature doesn’t delete your chats, it only closes all open tabs. All chats remain available in your history.

To find closed chats:

  • Click the history icon in the Agent panel
  • Or use Opt+Cmd+’

You’ll see all your past chats there. Click any of them to open it again.

I agree the name “Clear All Chats” can be unclear - it sounds like deletion. We can pass this as feedback to improve the UX.
