CLI Agent acts as in editing mode while in planning mode

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor CLI

Describe the Bug

Sometimes (happened for me twice) agent falls out of Planning mode while it is enabled after making a correction to a proposed plan.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Switch to Plan mode.
  • Submit a prompt
  • Wait for the plan to be proposed
  • Submit corrections to the plan
  • (rarely) Agent attempts to act on suggestions immediately. Fails to do so and continues with finding ways to edit files.

Expected Behavior

Agent proposes a new plan after receiving the corrections.

Operating System

Linux

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. It looks like unexpected behavior where the agent mode switch is not being preserved correctly.

To help the engineering team reproduce and fix this, could you please share:

  • An example of the initial prompt, the proposed plan, and the correction you submitted when this happened
  • Any error messages that appeared when it tried to edit files
  • Whether this only happens with specific types of corrections (for example, adding steps, removing steps, clarifying details)
  • The request ID of your chat session

If this happens again, you can restart the CLI session to get back into proper Planning mode.

These all is hard to find now. I’ll do my best to collect the data next time it happens.
Could I share it privately in some way not on a public forum?

Yes, you can, I’ll send you a DM.
