Constant Restarts of Cursor IDE

I am having constant restart issues. I can do one or two queries, then crash, then restart. It seems to be worse when I paste logs though.

:white_check_mark: Check the forum Done.
:lady_beetle: Provide a clear description of the bug. Done.

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Explain how to reproduce the bug (if known)
:camera: Attach screenshots or recordings (e.g., .jpg, .png, .mp4). Done.
:laptop: Tell us your operating system and your Cursor version: OSx, Cursor: 0.4.68
:prohibited: Tell us if the issue stops you from using Cursor. No, just frustrating.

This is literally unusable.

Unusable at this point.

Try clearing the cache, in most cases, this should help. If it doesn’t, try reinstalling Cursor.

Tried:

  1. Press Cmd+ Shift + P
  2. type command Clear Editor History

Same results.

Deleted application. Reinstalled. Unusable.

Cleared every cache I can, still the same.

For every one that goes through, I am actually doing at least three. Surely there must be documentation on how to handle this? This is expensive at so many levels!

You mentioned pasting logs making things worse. How big are we talking?

Is there a chance maybe it’s choking on having some really large prompts in the history? Just trying to figure out what might be different about the inputs that’s making it fall over, wondered if there’s any really large entries in there.

Nothing out of the ordinary. I have cleared every history, cache or anything I can find with “clear” or “cache” with cmd+shift+p. Still unusable.

Users who faced this error confirmed that reinstalling fixed the issue.

Reinstalled earlier from your first suggestion. Still the same.

Upgraded to 0.46.9. Identical issues.

Infuriating…

Seriously, this is nuts. I literally can get nothing done.

Literally what I am doing at the moment:

  1. every query or response I put in TextEdit as it will be lost in a few seconds when the app crashes.
  2. Every query or response takes a minimum of two to three responses:
  • Ask the same question multiple times (my expense)
  • Get the response, but fails to execute, crashes (my expense)
  • And so we go around in circles (my expense)

In an act of desperation I have run "rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor, uninstalled and re-installed. Let’s see. Really should not have to do this.

I have this issue as well, have flushed cache and reinstalled.

This seems to have solved the problem. Certainly not ideal, but at least I can work again!

And we are back to crashing. Two this morning already. Not on every request at least. Version 0.46.9. Fresh install with “rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor” prior to install.

I had a similar issue* and disabled loads of extensions that I did not need and it seemed to have been caused by one of them.

*) for me it was going to 100% CPU and then crashing randomly throughout the day.
