Ctrl + A and Ctrl + Z don't work in file editor

BUG:
Ctrl + A doesn’t work in file editor (it doesn’t do anything).
It does work in Composer though.
I can still manually select all text in file editor with my cursor.

Ctrl + Z is broken in file editor - it undoes the last thing I did in Composer!
It does work in Composer though (i.e. when I have my cursor in there and press ctrl + z).

Cursor version:

This is significantly interrupting my flow.

Can you fix it please Cursor team?

Are you using any keyboard shortcut software or macro tools? Things like AutoHotkey, PowerToys, or keyboard remapping software can sometimes interfere with these shortcuts

Also worth checking if you have any keybindings that might be conflicting - you can check these in Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts

Yes, I am.

However, ctrl + a and ctrl + z work fine on the rest of windows.

So is it possible that the Cursor implementation is not following the same implementation approach as other apps?

Since you mentioned you’re using keyboard software - this is almost definitely the cause.

I personally had to remove PowerToys as it kept disabling my space bar!

@danperks if all my other software has worked fine with ctrl + a and ctrl + z for 5+ years with PowerToys, it seems unfair to say that PowerToys is the “cause” of them not working in Cursor.

Can Cursor ensure the keys work, like all other software I’ve used on this PC for the last 5+ years please?

BTW, there are other cases of standard keyboard usage not working in Cursor e.g. @harrisyu 's tab (!) is broken here.

@danperks I’ve just done the following:

  1. Turned off powertoys
  2. Verified that powertoys mappings no longer have an effect
  3. Tested if ctrl + A and ctrl + z are still broken in Cursor. They are.

I think, on that basis, that the issue is purely in Cursor.

Can you or someone on the team fix it please?

It’s extremely disruptive to my workflow when I can’t use these common shortcuts.

I don’t want to seem like I am passing blame to PowerToys, but from memory, I actually had to uninstall it and reboot to fix my keys, it seems to grab them from the start a not let go, even after closing the process!

My guess is that would fix it, as I can’t say I’ve seen other reports of issues with these keys not working!

I shared a report of keys not working from another user earlier in this thread! :face_with_tongue:
It was then fixed in a Cursor release.

Here’s another report of keyboard shortcuts not working in Cursor:

The report is from today.
It’s from @harakiriru and @matbee-eth.

I dont have powertools installed. I use Linux.
