Last week the auto mode was great. It was using claude sonnet 4.5. This week cursor dev shipped an update that has obviously changed the default model that the auto mode uses and now it is completely useless. Doesn’t even follow basic hand held instructions.
Steps to Reproduce
Use the auto mode for even the most basic of tasks with the clearest instructions and it fails miserably.
Expected Behavior
Auto mode should work reliably lol
Operating System
Windows 10/11
Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)
I know that auto is not using sonnet 4.5 because the chat messaging/tone has significantly changed and the quality is complete garbage now. When I take the exact same prompt and run it directly with sonnet 4.5 it works great and as expected.
The complete unreliability of auto mode makes it useless. Sometimes I can tell it uses sonnet and most of the time I can tell it is using some junky low level model that can’t even remember to use closing tags in the code.
Hi @mitch_dev and thank you for the detailed bug report. Note that you are using Antigravity Version: 1.11.3 and we are only providing Cursor and not Antigravity.
Please update the version text in your bug report and add a Request ID with privacy disabled so we can look into the details. Getting a Request ID | Cursor Docs
In regards to Cursor (not antigravity), Auto has been working fine for me recently (Unity, C#). Also there is no way to know confidently what model Auto is using.
There was a way to ask it and it was reliable in telling you but then I mentioned it on the forum and a few days later it was changed so you could no longer ask it about the model.
There’s ways to force it but I’m not going to share them here so they keep working.
