Cursor Auto-Update Fails & Official Download Link Not Updated to 0.46

Hi Cursor team,

I encountered an issue while trying to update Cursor to version 0.46. The auto-update process failed with an “os error 5” (access denied) error when renaming the tools folder. Additionally, I noticed that the official download page has not been updated with version 0.46, making it impossible to manually update.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Cursor automatically starts updating to version 0.46.
  2. The update process fails with the following error message:
  • “There was an error while renaming ‘tools’: Access Denied (os error 5)”
  • It suggests checking if any Cursor processes are still running.
  1. The official download link still provides an older version, preventing manual installation.

System Information:

  • OS: Windows 11 lastst
  • Cursor Version: Trying to update to 0.46

Impact:

This issue prevents me from using Cursor properly, as the failed auto-update disrupts my workflow. Since the official download page is not updated, I cannot install the latest version manually either.

Request:

  1. Please fix the auto-update process to prevent permission errors.
  2. Update the official download link to include version 0.46 so that users can manually download and install it if needed.

I’ve attached a screenshot of the error message for reference. Looking forward to your response and a solution. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the report!

Looks like we pushed a bad update out a while ago, but things should be back to normal now. If you download the latest installer from cursor.com, that should get everything working for you again!

I disagree Dan! The download on the home page is 45.15. Problem is it keeps downloading updates to a BROKEN 46 version. I’m done trying to get on 46, but as of all day and now for me 45.15 isn’t even usable either! The Agent just Stops for no reason - it wont complete any tasks!
So 45.15 doesn’t work and 46 wont install!
