Cursor update error: There was an error while renaming: "tools"

I got an update available while in 0.46.3, and errored while installing. I confirm there’s no Cursor processes running other than the update installer.

Now Cursor doesn’t open at all. What do I do?

try reinstall,same issue with you
I reinstalled the program and it worked

That works, which version did you reinstall? I did 0.46.3 again.

However, it’s always downloading update automatically and will fail again. Can we disable Cursor automatic updates?

and I couldn’t update to the 0.46.■■

Thankfully it seems this setting works to disable automatic updates. I hope they fix this, because I won’t be able to update to any latest version anymore.

Try reinstalling Cursor and clearing any leftover installation files. That usually helps with update errors.

this is also happening to me and I am currently working.

Cursor dead, I tried to uninstall it after the update went wrong and the result is that it no longer opens. I tried reinstalling but the Win x64 version link was blocked.

So at the moment I can’t really use it

I’m having the same problem right now!

same problem here

Me too, on Windows. I uninstalled cursor and installed it from a freshly downloaded installer. Worked fine but 30 minutes later—like an idiot—I clicked the update button again :expressionless:

I did what you said but the same problem persists. There is also a problem with the website.

@danperks

I also encountered this problem. The solution I found is: There is an installer.exe execution file under the C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\cursor-updater path. After double-clicking this file for installation, it will be solved;

I don’t believe it’s fixed, after a fresh install don’t click “Update”. Additionally, I have noticed that the fresh installation available on the website does not include the latest Agent changes.

Try this:

Cursor is severely broken after the latest update. It’s extremely slow, produces errors with simple updates, and the diff algorithm is failing. Reverting to older versions doesn’t fix it.

Getting the same issue. Between this and the anthropic errors over the last few days Cursor has been useless.
