Cursor Windows Update

When update is downloaded and I press to restart to update i get an error.

I don’t see any Cursor instances run in task manager, when I try to repeat the same error appears. If I cancel installation I won’t be able to launch cursor anymore.

And the funny thing is that there is no release of the latest version 0.46 on the site, so you can download 0.45 which will then download the update to 0.46, but I already tried this and the error is the same.

Windows 11 24h2

UPD:
Also, the update system is not working in a predictable way. I work on my computer and my laptop with the same operating system and set of programs. When I get an update on one of my devices, it may not arrive on the other and I will have a difference in versions. One will have the old one and the other will have the new one. This is not convenient.
The Attempt Update command doesn’t always work either. Now I rolled back to 45.15 because the installer was on the site and it doesn’t see updates.

same issues
I reinstalled Cursor and it worked

Hey, try navigating to this folder, there should be an update there. If the installation fails again, try uninstalling the old version and installing the new one.

Same.
I killed the updater process, which killed Cursor entirely.

I didn’t uninstall, but re-installed from the website.
Sadly, that meant back to 0.45

Then I found the update installer at this location.

Closing Cursor and installing from this file worked and I’m on 0.46.5 now. :v:

same thing happened and now i am reinstalling.

It looks like the updater inno_updater.exe is moving the directory tools where the program is located.

After I restart my machine it’s still like this. Please fix

I faced the same problem as the author described, and your solution helped me perfectly. Only the last letters in the folder are a little different.

Confirmed, it gets stuck at trying to rename tools, then nothing works anymore. You can’t do anything except cancel and then it’s back to reinstalling 0.45.14 logfile

Confirmed, it gives me that error as well and I reinstall

This is the solution, it worked for me

Yeah, same issue here - ■■■■ thing updated in the background & when I shut down my notebook to go home it had the same error. I can reinstall the old version from the website but it auto-updates & when I restart my computer it has the same problem. Is it really the company’s attitude that I have to install this app (back to an old version) every time I reboot? If so, time for a rethink on how you release these new half-baked updates. I have work to do, no time to beta-test your product, while paying USD40/month to do so.

I agree with all above. Got the same error:

Downloaded ver 0.45.15 again, installed and seemed to work. Then clicked on the tempting “Update Cursor” bubble… DON’T!

Awesome, worked for me. Thanks!

If 0.46 isn’t in your temp folder, you can download it here
Installing it this way also fixed the Renaming "tools" issue for me
