If you reinstall, I think it will go back to 0.45, right?
thank you for this
Update killed my Cursor as well and I am also getting the same error as @paladinodeimari which means I cant use the old version and cannot download the new version either…
is the newest version working on windows or its broken?
It wokrs for me. TY
YEA,and you need to find the updated .exe
Hey all, looks like we let a bad update slip through the cracks, reverting it now while we take a look!
Downloads on cursor.com should be working again, with 0.45.15 being our latest globally available version - those on 0.46.x versions will remain there!
Jesus Christ, thank you for this !
thank you for this
并没有用,下载了0.45.15后,依然会自动更新,然后更新出错无法打开。
It didn’t work. After downloading version 0.45.15, it still automatically updates, and then fails to open due to update errors.
Thank you!
I can run versions 44, 45, and 46 here, but the chat and compose features are broken. They’re slow and produce errors
I have version 0.45.15 installed
but it still shows that an update is available.
I tried to install it again, and the same problem occurred.
Version 46.3 installed correctly.

The same thing:
There was an error while opening file handle:
“C:\Users.…\AppData\Local\Programs\cursor\managed_context\metadata.json”:
Failed to create file handle: Access denied.
Please verify there are no Cursor processes still executing.
But why, when I check for updates in Cursor, does it automatically install version 0.46, and after restarting, this error pops up? After this error occurs, the update fails, and worse, my original version 0.45 of Cursor won’t open either. When I double-click it, there’s no response at all. I’m using Windows 11.
Same problem here on ubuntu 22.04. It offered “upgrade cursor”, then it failed to update. I had to killall -9 cursor
and then i ran cursor again ,but i was on 45.14. I tried to use my ubuntu upgrade script that i’ve always used to update to new versions, but it always updates just to 45.14.
same here. the update is killing the application. I needed to reinstall from the download. and not touch the update again.
Fix is posted in here.
If you’re on windows go to
user/AppData/Local/Temp and look for vscode-stable folder with 46.x exe file
