Cursor update error: There was an error while renaming: "tools"

No, I have tried all. 44.11, 45.15 and 46.6. Nothing works anymore.

The same thing:

There was an error while opening file handle:
“C:\Users.…\AppData\Local\Programs\cursor\managed_context\metadata.json”:
Failed to create file handle: Access denied.

Please verify there are no Cursor processes still executing.

yes its working !

Yes, that works, however, triggering the check for updates / install option still results in same error. (and you need to delete the cursor-updater contents)

Looks like we had some leftover code that was still pushing people to the broken update - just deployed a fix to stop this!

Installing Cursor 0.45.15 for the second time - It’s ok to deliver new innovations quickly but a bit more testing on your end would be appreciated. Or do it like :sailboat: with their “Next” version or CoPilot with their “Insider”.

Where? How can we get it?

Re-downloading the installer from cursor.com should get you a working version now, and any update prompts in the app should be fine too!

After reinstalling, it works normally, but when I click to update, the same error reappears. This means I’m permanently locked out of updating the software. :sob:

Hey, can you check this again? Cursor may have already downloaded the broken update, but this should be fixed now so it won’t do so again.

If you can, close Cursor, run the latest installer from cursor.com, and let me know if the broken update is still waiting for you once you reopen Cursor!

Yes, I’ve reinstalled it five times. After each installation, I try updating again, but it crashes repeatedly. Additionally, during reinstallation, it now shows a message like “You are installing with administrator privileges” —something I’ve never seen before.

Thanks! it looks like I’m still stuck on the downloaded version 0.45.15 and it says there are no updates available when I check for them.
Should i redownload the installer and try again?
EDIT
I did download the installer again and its the same thing.
Am I supposed to be able to update yet?

Hello guys, I have solved this. If you can see this link: Cursor 0.46.3, click it and install, you will get 0.46 without error.

thank you for your incredible help.

Why doesn’t the download on the website point to the latest patch release?

When trying to update CodeSetup-stable-0.46.6.exe it got failed with the same issue. What is happening? Its second time, i have this problem.
