Cursor continues to be unable to edit files

Day 12: Cursor still has broken functionality with regard to its edit_file tool.

It’s working good now. I posted every day or so about this because nobody was acknowledging it. Glad you guys figured it out.

It can create new files with several hundred lines but cannot remove them.

Hey, can you try to start a new chat?

It looks like the AI isn’t giving the right input parameters to the tool, so it keeps failing over and over! While the AI can sometimes forget the right way to use the tool, a new chat will start fresh, so may have better luck!

This issue goes well beyond just starting a new chat. It manifests itself constantly, even in new chats. Just now, look at this mess:

The amount of time and requests I’ve wasted dealing with Cursor’s bugs is staggering. Just an incredibly buggy piece of software.

hi there, also getting problem with afent editing files, any updates on the topic?
i keep on getting “I apologize for the difficulties with the edit tool.” and then it just prompts with all the changes and asks me to apply them

i have the latest cursor version with latest macos on my macbook pro m1

Yesterday was great, worked fine, but today constantly getting “Error calling tool ‘edit_file’.”. Unable to use Cursor today. Hopefully tomorrow its working again…

same issue, Error calling tool ‘edit_file’. But you can say to work in smaller chunks / sections. and its working fine.

I restarted cursor and asked it if it now can access ‘edit_file’. the answer:

I still don’t have access to the edit_file tool. The tools available to me are still limited to:

• codebase_search
• read_file
• list_dir
• grep_search
• file_search

I can see the content of your files, but I cannot directly edit them. If you need to make changes to fix the layout issues, I can provide you with the exact code changes you need to make manually. Would you like me to do that?

Still finding issues here; Cursor esp with Claude 4 unable to make smaller (few line) edits and gets stuck in a doom loop.

Just upgraded to Pro and it’s started happening. Could it be related to the additional context window or models used for Pro accounts.

Also stubled upon this now. Sonnet 4, creating a single file (LICENSE):

Restarting Cursor didn’t help. I’m pretty much stuck with it and I can’t continue working
