Cursor detects attached images but cannot read their contents

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Cursor recognizes that an image is attached, but it cannot actually interpret or analyze what is shown. Instead, it searches the project for a text description or reference to the image and bases its response on that. I tested fresh windows, different images, chats, and models, but the problem continues. Image understanding previously worked normally.

Steps to Reproduce

Open Cursor IDE and start a new chat or agent session.
Attach an image using the image upload button.
Ask Cursor to describe or analyze the image.
Cursor recognizes that an image is attached but cannot read its visual contents.
It instead searches the project for a text description or reference to the image.

Expected Behavior

Cursor should directly analyze the attached image and accurately respond based on its visible contents without searching the project for a description.

Operating System

MacOS

Version Information

Hey @Mr_Wonderful

Curosr should be able to “see images” – even for models that don’t support vision, helper models can generate descriptions for the parent model.

Could you share a Request ID of a chat or two where this wasn’t working?
