Hey, thanks for the report. A few questions to diagnose:

  • Does this happen with every update or only sometimes?
  • If you reopen Cursor manually after updating, does it work normally?
  • Do you have any antivirus or other security software that could block the auto-restart?

In the meantime, try:

  • Running Cursor as administrator when installing updates
  • Temporarily disabling antivirus/security software during the update
  • Checking if Windows permissions are blocking Cursor from auto-launching

Let me know what you find!

Hey, I have the same problem, previously after installing the update Cursor restarted automatically, but the last two updates only close the program but do not restart Windows 11

I experienced the same issue for the last two updates.

Win 11.

hi dean!

  • this happen with every updates.
  • i try restart cursor manually and after update but i have the same results, cursor update and not restart automatically
  • no, i dont have antivirus or other security software.
  • when the update pop-up appears again, I’ll close Cursor, open it as administrator, and restart the update to see if it behaves.

ty for your help!

Since version 2.0 when i click “restart to update” after installing new version, cursor just closes, does not open again.

When I go to settings the upgrade buttons for pro+ and ultra appear for a second and then disappear (I already have ultra)

One time I opened setings and also saw “Hooks” button and disappear right after.

Hey, does it actually update? Or closes and stays the same version?

Have you tried reinstalling whole Cursor?

I’m getting this on every update. I’ve had 3-4 updates today, and each time the software doesn’t restart, and I have to open it back up manually.

Hi, I am having the same issue. It updates to the new version, but I have to manually reopen it. In my case, the chat window keyboard shortcuts have stopped working too, but maybe that’s unrelated, I’m looking into that.

It updates but doesn’t open automatically

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

The “Install Now” prompt (see screenshot) used to initiate an update of Cursor and a subsequent restart. However, as of a week or two ago, it correctly updates but does not restart Cursor on all my Windows machines.

Please restore the correct and expected behavior.

Steps to Reproduce

Hit the Install Now button when it appears.

Expected Behavior

Cursor updates and restarts automatically.

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

  1. It happens with every update.
  2. Re-opening Cursor updates 50% of the time. If I am using cursor with a VPS, it does not update and then keeps asking to log into that VPS, but if i use cursor with local machine storage, it does update.
  3. No extra antivirus than the normal windows 11.
