Cursor fails to update from 1.7.43

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

none of the built-in update methods work to update cursor. this failure appeared in release 1.6.45 and continues in 1.7.43

Steps to Reproduce

wait for the “update is available” popup to appear and click “update now”. note that cursor quits and never re-appears

alternatively, click the upper menubar Cursor->Check for Updates. note that this menu item greys out and is replaced by “downloading update”. eventually this is replaced with “restart to upgrade”. if you restart, cursor quits, never re-starts, and when it is re-started by hand is still at 1.7.43.
