Yes, unfortunately Cursor Mover really doesn’t work to restore chats after an update. The author recently confirmed this.

But there’s an alternative, manual extraction via SQLite. This lets you pull the data from the database even if the UI freezes:

  1. Install DB Browser for SQLite: https://sqlitebrowser.org/
  2. Open state.vscdb from your backup
  3. Look for keys like workbench.panel.aichat.view... or workbench.panel.composerChatViewPanel...

Also check ~/.config/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage/ since there may be .json or .md files with history in subfolders like anysphere.cursor-retrieval/.

If you find markdown files, you can feed them into a new chat and the AI will continue from that context.
