After I installed the last update cursor does not work for me anymore, when I try to open it everything blocks and I see that it is using most of my memory and my CPU for some reason and I’m getting the “Cursor is not responding” tab because of that. I tried even rebooting my PC but nothing is working right now, anyone knows what happened?

updated the app this morning, got the same high memory usage and “Cursor is not responding”. also rebooted my machine several times already. any solution for this?
Same issue here… few restarts, freed the RAM, but even with 8-9 Gb of free RAM Cursor still freezes right after starting it. Hope to be fixed soon as many depends on it - else we’ll have to search for alternatives.
I have de same issue, de administrator of windows shows package.json is given issues. This happen today in last updated
Clean reinstallation helped. Console hangout and chat stuck will be there. Cursor got the same issue they had on 0.37 ver - new features killed base usability.
It’s still unusable.
same for me, restarting the PC doesn’t work! app is unresponsive though it looks like it is loading but then gets stuck.
update:
uninstall (following @boscacci suggestion below)
installed again, program loads but is very slow until it crashes.
problem not resolved.
Same issue here - can’t open cursor without it crashing immediately, since the most recent update.
Will use “bulk crap uninstaller” (https://www.bcuninstaller.com/) to wipe and re-install fresh, then update here
UPDATE (5 minutes later):
Aforementioned BCU + fresh re-install = problem solved.
Don’t get too attached to your cursor configs, y’all…be ready to nuke it all every time there’s an update. Gratefully I’m not very attached to my chat history or prefs
This is why I plan with another LLM prior to building on cursor because of things like this
Same, i had to revert to the previous update
I am reporting a drastic decline in Cursor’s performance and intelligence observed today. The application has become extremely sluggish, with response times and ‘Apply’ actions taking significantly longer than usual.
More importantly, there is a noticeable regression in reasoning quality. The AI is consistently making amateur mistakes that weren’t present yesterday, ignoring context instructions, and repeatedly suggesting nonsensical code blocks. It feels like the model is hallucinating more frequently or failing to grasp the project structure, often introducing bugs into previously working files.
Whether this is due to the latest IDE update or instability with the Claude 3.7/Opus models, it is currently making professional development impossible. Please look into these server-side delays and model inconsistencies.
You can find and install previous versions that worked here:

This company needs to get its act together. I refused to change from Sublime after 15 years, and now Cursor is giving me problems after every single update. Consider this a warning and stop releasing buggy software every week!!! JESUS CHRIST!!!
The most serious problem is that, they are doing this, AND FORCING UPDATES TO INSTALL EVERY TIME cursor starts. THAT is the real travesty here. Why the hell are they forcing every user onto the latest build every time? Their builds are a DISASTER 99% of the time…its INSANE that they force, FORCE, every user onto the latest version like its an evergreen browser (which run through VASTLY more stringent testing and vetting before being released to the general public!!!)
This company really does need to get its act together, because the way they are treating their paying users is nuts.
Why try to fix something that’s not broken? We need an MVP before you push updates every other day
It’s unusable on my end as well. Pretty annoying and will most likely need to look for a back-up ide to replace cursor if this ever happens again.
Same In WIndows git extension wont load, nightly 2.5.0-pre.16.patch.0
Also just getting non-responsive. The app freezes and is unusable currently.
Update: I temporarily disabled all my MCP tools and it seems to be stable again.
