Does this stop you from using Cursor?

  • Yes - Cursor is unusable
  • Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor
  • No - Cursor works, but with this issue

The more details you provide, the easier it is for us to reproduce and fix the issue. Thanks!

Same issue here. App becomes non-responsive instantly, pegged at 100% CPU usage in the main process.

Disabling extensions did not help. If I backup and completely delete the application data folder is does start fine, but I really do not want to delete my existing workspaces as they contain valuable context / history.

I can’t use cursor so I cant get the info on version

Yeah thats not an option for me either

Hey, thanks for the report. We’re seeing a few similar cases after the recent update, this is a known issue and the team is already looking into it.

Try a clean reinstall from the official site, it helped in a few cases:

  1. Fully uninstall Cursor
  2. Download the latest version from cursor.com
  3. Reinstall it

This should keep your workspace settings and project context, they’re stored separately from the app binaries.

If it doesn’t help, please share:

  • Your OS (Windows/Mac/Linux) and version
  • Open Task Manager / Activity Monitor, which exact process is using CPU? (Cursor.exe main process, extensionHost, something else?)

Related threads where users fixed it:

Uninstalling and reinstalling does not appear to help. I thought it did at first, but it enters the unresponsive state when I open up a historical (rather long) conversation in a multi-folder workspace.

I have the same problem. None of the previous suggested ‘fixes’ work for me. It’s not acceptable to lose all agent conversations and history.

What worked for me was to kill cursor, then open terminal and run “cursor .” it opened up and was ready to go. YMMV

me too

I have isolated my issue down to a single conversation causing the crash, if anyone in the Cursor team can give me guidance I can privately send them data to reproduce.

Okay so my issue was solved by doing this

Creating a new folder on the desktop opening notepad and creating a .md file opening the .md file with cursor

Then I could open my old project back up and it was running fine. I’m not sure what the update did honestly but this was my solution

This one seems to have worked for me. Thanks so much!

Spoke to soon. The hang/crash no longer occurs, but I can’t send any messages to any agent. There is an error in the console, maybe it’s related? → Executing task: swift: Describe Package

/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Toolchains/XcodeDefault.xctoolchain/usr/bin/swift package describe --type json

error: Could not find Package.swift in this directory or any of its parent directories.

  • The terminal process failed to launch (exit code: 1).

error: Could not find Package.swift in this directory or any of its parent directories.

Got rid of the console message by creating a shim Package.json in my project (not that I should have to). Still no access to agents. Running the network diagnostics shows successful connections to DNS, HTTP/2, SSL and Marketplace. API, Ping, Chat and Agent never return any results.

This is getting silly - have lost nearly two days work now and no proper fix in sight.
