Cursor is unusable after the latest update when I open a git repo

Describe the Bug

Whenever I open the repo in the latest update on Windows it starts spam opening terminal windows with failing
[error 2147942632 (0x800700e8) when launching ‘“git” cat-file – batch’]

Every time a new terminal opens it gains focus stopping me in doing anything else. I can only edit one file a time now.

Steps to Reproduce

Turn on the latest update of Cursor on W11 in a git repository.

Expected Behavior

It should just open.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Yesterday this behaviour happened on my pc at work and after updating also on my pc at home. I am guessing it got fixed today since I can’t reproduce it after an update?

Cursor 2.1.0 many windows appeared on the first startup

Application git.exe 2.45.1.1 C:\Program Files\Git\cmd\git.exe Went here and downloaded the latest Which updated me to Application git.exe 2.52.0.1 C:\Program Files\Git\cmd\git.exe Version 2.1.7 did open WITHOUT issue, then updated to Version: 2.1.17 (user setup) VSCode Version: 1.105.1 Commit: 6757269838ae9ac4caaa2be13f396fdfbcf1f9a0 Date: 2025-11-21T08:55:17.983Z Electron: 37.7.0 Chromi…

Had the same issue, then updated to latest git and that seemed to fix it for me.
