Cursor Projects for CLI and also self-hosted cloud agents

I use Cursor daily and I do like it. I’m excited about the prospect of Cursor Projects. But it seems it’s currently limited to local work.

I use Cursor CLI mostly, and I suspect it’s not available yet. Secondly, what I would really like is to be able to chat to the Project (Manager) over the Cursor app (on my iPhone) and to direct it to work for me on my own server (Self-hosted cloud agent). I find that when connecting to my remote server using agent worker start, I can access my project in https://cursor.com/agents, but not in my iphone app. Possible to sync the two? Is Cursor planning to unify the App and the web interface? What other options do I have at the moment if my work is mainly done on my server?

Many thanks!

Tim

Hey @Timothy_Mak, thanks for the detailed questions!

Projects in the CLI not available yet. Today a Project is created and managed from the desktop app (Agents Window, left nav). The CLI can’t create or drive a Project at the moment.

You can message the coordinator from the iPhone app (or cursor.com/agents) and it behaves the same as it does in the Desktop, because everything that makes it a Project (memory, instructions, the ability to launch workers) lives on our side, not in the desktop app. What the mobile app is missing right now is the Projects view itself, so the Project shows up as a regular agent conversation there and the workers appear as separate agents in your list. We are working on this!

The iOS picker currently requires the “Enable Remote Control” setting to be on before it lists your machines, even ones you registered yourself with agent worker start. The web does not have that requirement, which is why you see the server there. To fix it: cursor.com/dashboard, Cloud Agents, turn on “Enable Remote Control” (the phone will also offer to turn it on from the “Run on” picker). Then reopen the app, tap “Run on” when composing, and your server should be listed under “Remote Control” (the same thing the web calls “My Machines”).

Additionally, if the folder on your server is a checkout of a repo hosted on Cursor Origin, the iOS Workspace picker will not list it yet; it currently only shows repos from GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps. In that case the reliable path from the phone is cursor.com/agents in Safari (use “Add to Home Screen” for an app-like feel). Agents you start there show up in the iOS app afterwards, so you can follow them and reply from the app.

Bringing Projects to the web and the mobile app, and closing the gaps above, is being worked on!
