This happens to me recently. It even removes when I have a window of Cursor opened.
I just made an account to report that the same thing happened. Windows 11, I was using Cursor yesterday, I believe I did get an “update available” popup in the lower left at some point in the day that I declined. Later, I shut cursor down for the night, here we are the next morning and it’s gone.
But I started hunting around a bit and found something interesting. In Users>***>AppData>Local>Temp, I found some logs from cursor-inno-updater. The updater ran even though I told it not to. And the odd thing, my computer was off during these time stamps, unless these are UTC time values. The logs are pretty long, but the very last lines of the log show it deleting files. Here are the last 6 lines of the log (with username removed)
Jul 31 03:51:34.032 INFO Collected all directories and file handles
Jul 31 03:51:34.333 INFO All file handles marked for deletion

@AgitatedPancake thank you for the post. Do you know which version you were on before this happened?
Unfortunately I don’t. The last discrete installer download I have is 1.2.2, but at this point I have zero clue how many times it has updated itself when asked not to
I just experienced this in my Windows. I’ve never seen in my life a software removing itself all of the sudden like this. And for what I have seen on Internet, there are complaints since 2024 about this issue and still it is not solved? tbh, If I’ll need to keep installing this over and over I won’t keep the pro plan for long… The installer version I used was 1.1.6, I don’t know if there was an update before that.
Just happened to me. First time this happens.
Describe the Bug
It’s been 6 months guys. I’m a paying user. I literally have to reinstall Cursor every single day. Cursor will uninstall itself 50% of the times I quit the application. The sad part is that I usually quit Cursor to get the “Restore checkpoint” button back which randomly vanishes with no explanation requiring me to restart Cursor. So I quit → Oh, great. Cursor is gone → Reinstall → Wonderful, the converstation is wiped and there’s no way for me to Restore checkpoint → Stuck with a bunch of problems that I can’t even cross-reference anymore because the logs are gone.
Beautiful.
Steps to Reproduce
Literally just exit.
