Cursor uninstalled itself and didn't install afterwards

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Just 2 hours ago I disabled autoupdates (so I had pre-latest version, because I saw a notification to install an update). Then I rebooted my system. And Cursor disappeared, so I had to download it and install. Fortunatelly eveything including settings was in place.

Steps to Reproduce

Wait untill you see a Cursor notification “New update available” click “Later”. Go to File->Preferences->VS Code Settings. Search for “Update”, uncheck “Extensions: Auto check updates” and “Update: Enable Windows Background Updates”. Reboot.

Expected Behavior

App should not uninstall itself.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. This was a known issue with the auto-update mechanism on Windows. In some cases, Cursor could “disappear” after a restart.

The fix is included in version 2.5.26, which you’ve already updated to. It shouldn’t happen again.

If you run into this again on the current version, let me know.

Happened twice this week alone ( installed using CursorUserSetup-x64-2.6.12.exe ). Windows 11, windows defender, nothing exotic.

Edit: make that 3 times, woke up to Cursor being gone again.
