Cursor Uninstalls On Attempted Update (MacOS)

Every time I try to update Cursor by clicking the button on the bottom left of the application window (prompting me to update Cursor), Cursor uninstalls itself. This happened on a previous version of cursor and on the current one I am using now.

(Current) Cursor Version
Version: 0.49.5 (Universal)
VSCode Version: 1.96.2
Commit: fd861c8a80c0f9e4e35294b1915ee8a7b29ae850
Date: 2025-04-24T02:57:26.819Z
Electron: 34.3.4
Chromium: 132.0.6834.210
Node.js: 20.18.3
V8: 13.2.152.41-electron.0
OS: Darwin arm64 24.4.0

What is strange is that when I reinstall cursor using the same installer. I can click on restart Cursor where it would say to check for updates, and it uninstalls itself again!

In order to update Cursor I have to download the installer manually from the website each time.

I am using MacOS 15.4.1.

I have seen similar posts for Windows but was not able to find any results for Mac so I decided to make this post.

Hey, when Cursor updates, it removes the old version before installing the new one. There might be a glitch. Try installing the ARM version instead of the universal one.

Thanks, I’ll keep this in mind the next time an update comes out.
