Cursor update regardless of the update settings

Hi,

The last versions of Cursor were broken and I had to roll back, so to avoid any interruption in my workflow, I tried to use the setting update.mode in the settings.json, however, it seems that Cursor does not respect this setting.

I tried the following

"update.mode": "manual",

"update.mode": "none",

But none of the above works, every time there is a new version available the IDE will update itself.

How can I prevent the auto-update feature?

Before updating I would like to at least check the changelog and other users feedback.

Hey, unfortunately, you can’t disable automatic updates. Could you let me know what isn’t working for you in the new versions?

Incompatibility with 3rd party extensions, hallucinations, issues with the composer, nothing new.

all was already reported by other users in the forum.

I just would like Cursor to respect the user settings and didn’t force any update…

In latest (v0.45.15), the remote SSH session extension is broken. It throws 404 error when downloading the remote-ssh plugin.

Renders cursor not usable because of this update. I have an older version (v0.45.7), which works totally fine, but every time I close it, it automatically uninstalls and takes 20 minutes to update it to latest version and thus, breaking the remote plugin. I tried disabling updates and setting it manual, but nothing works and I can’t use cursor even if I am paying.

Yes, even as a paying user, it seems that we are testing a bleeding edge software that can update several times a day and always break something.

I blocked the update endpoint and changed the app to read only, but it will always find a way to update itself.

That is unacceptable, and the reason I am not a paying user/not a user anymore.
