Does Cursor Cli support ACP?

Hello,

I saw Claude Code and Gemini is on the list for ACP support here Introduction - Agent Client Protocol . Does cursor also support ACP so we can use other editor?

Hi @idham currently we support as the Agent protocol MCPs. We may add in the future support for ACP if there is enough interest in the community.

Additionally ACP provides features that we already have built into Cursor so not sure if there is any advantage in duplicating that.

@condor for people who prefer zed as an ide but cursor cli as an agent that may provide a great value

I agree with OP and @ravshan-oxagile. I like Cursor’s small model, auto mode, and built-in prompts, which are the best on the market at the moment. I feel like that is what I am paying for. However, I don’t like that I am bound to VSCode. Zed has better Vim emulation (and no VSCode plugin can achieve that currently), and in general, Zed uses fewer system resources and much snappier.

I would also like to see ACP in Cursor CLI for Zed integration for example.

+1 for ACP support in cursor-agent. I think cursor might benefit a lot from it!

ACP in Cursor CLI would be fantastic. A widely used Neovim AI plugin, codecompanion.nvim, recently added ACP support. Getting it added to Cursor CLI would make Neovim integration so good.

Registering interest. Zencoder added CC and Gemini CLI’s to their product and it is awesome to be able to use our subscriptions instead of usage pricing.

I’m a weirdo that prefers Emacs over every single other editor (and my Emacs config is as rich as any editor right now, while being orders of magnitude faster than Cursor); I’d love to be able to use cursor-agent from within Emacs, and have it run diffs through Emacs instead of in the CLI.

In addition to ACP support, I’d also love to see a way to get Cursor’s Tab in Zed or any other IDE.

This would be fantastic!

Additionally ACP provides features that we already have built into Cursor so not sure if there is any advantage in duplicating that.

The benefit is that people who have to use cursor at work because their employer chose cursor as the sole AI coding agent provider, but don’t want to use cursor the IDE, will be able to integrate cursor into their IDE of choice.

Right now the solutions I have:

  • run cursor in addition to pycharm, tedious and takes a lot of ram with several projects open at the same time
  • Use cursor CLI which is severally lacking at the moment
  • Try and convince my employer to switch to another provider.

While at the moment ACP is mostly for users of Zed, vim and Emacs, Jetbrains has recently started collaborating with Zed to implement ACP: JetBrains × Zed: Open Interoperability for AI Coding Agents in Your IDE | The JetBrains AI Blog

Once it is done, coding agents with ACP support will have a strong advantage for businesses compared to Cursor’s approach.
