When I enter Cursor, the chat is endlessly loading chat, and after a few minutes the error warning is displayed. no matter what I clicked, still this error does not go anywhere
Do you having anything in Task Manager related to Cursor that’s consuming a lot of CPU? That could help determine what’s causing it.
I had an issue earlier this week with a document not indexing properly, which then led to it constantly trying and chewing up about 140% of CPU. I’m not saying that’s the issue here, but reviewing running processes helped narrow down the cause.
I do not have more than 5-6 chats in my history. I do every save the file “state.vscdb”. I have already had this error, but at some point the whole chat just deleted and then I could not do anything, but now I have all the necessary backups and I do not want to lose my chat history
Yeah, you’re having a very similar issue to mine. Below is how I handle history now.
I’ve gotten into the habit of keeping a local memory bank that the agent keeps up with. When I start a new chat, I let the agent use the summary and get going, and then I delete the old chat, which only leaves a single active chat per project. I also used to keep two to four chats. They can get rather large since I wouldn’t start a new chat until it started to lag.
An option you can try instead of relying on the agent’s chat history is to use a plugin such as SpecStory. If you use this and clean chats, as I mentioned before, it should solve your issue with the chat history. To get it working again, you may need to delete the database to start fresh.
FYI, I was able to install it from the marketplace instead of manually installing it.
I’m experiencing the same exact problem but on MacOS. I have loading chat constantly and can’t do anything - it doesn’t even allow me to open up new projects. I don’t know how to fix it, remove the cursor, or get out of it. If anybody has a solution, please let me know
There are 2 solutions, but they still won’t return your chat history.
in the folder C:\Users\{namePC}\AppData\Roaming\Cursor\User\workspaceStorage find your workspace and delete the file “state.vscdb”. then all chat history will be deleted and all files that were opened in the workspace will be closed too.
the second method will also delete the chat history, but will leave the opened files in the workspace. you need to download the old version (I download version 0.46.11) and at startup you will automatically create a new chat. after that you can download the new version. in the list of chats you will see the old chats, but you will not be able to open them.
To save chat history you can use SpecStory. it will save all chat history in .md format. Just give the new chat a few recent md. files so that the chat understands where you left off. this is the only way to solve the problem with deleting chats.

In my case of macOS, I did the followings:
Go to the directory. On Mac OS, it is as follows.
cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage/
