Stuck on "Loading Chat"

Describe the Bug

When loading a folder in which I used cursor a long time ago (about 3 month), gets stuck on loading a chat (that is not very important to me) and fails to load it.
It freezes the UI, thus this project cannot be oppened with Cursor.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Have a folder you used to work with Cursor on (older version, about 3 month ago), must have chats
  2. Open the folder with Cursor
  3. Profit

Also, I have worked on this project with another editor between my past usage of Cursor and now.

Expected Behavior

Should load the chat or just discard it if corrupted or whatever.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

You’ve maxed out your chat, start a new chat.

The program is not loading at all, the UI freezes on this specific project.
I cannot do anything since its stuck on loading nor I remember “maxing out” the chat when I used Cursor on this project before.

Have you gone through this guide

Clearing %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Cursor did the trick. I saved my profile prior to that.

But still, its a bug that should be fixed

I agree with you there. Lots of people suffer from this.

Hey @heyy Thanks for flagging this.

We have an open bug ticket for this. Clearing the local files does work as a workaround, and it would be great if you or anybody else who runs into this in the future would be able to share the contents of that folder (in DMs) so that we can try to reproduce and fix on our side!

For me only reinstallation helped. Macos

This did work for me on macOS:

For Linux I had to rename the project directory, which is kind of absurd. Cursor needs to actually fix this.

I am experiencing the same issue on Mac. And clearly I am clueless - as I do not see a /cursor directory on my Mac in the /library/application support directory. (and yes, I am viewing all files, including those normally invisible). Any advice here on getting passed this blocker. Much appreciated. TIA

/library/application support directory.

Looks like you are searching the path from the root /?
The path is based on the home directory as ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage/.
