Describe the Bug
During my recent development session, the Cursor AI agent repeatedly entered endless loops and provided off-topic responses, significantly hindering productivity and causing frustration.
Key Issues:
Endless Loops:
The agent repeatedly asked the same diagnostic questions or performed the same codebase searches, even after I had already provided the necessary information or clarified the problem.
Instead of progressing to a solution, the agent would cycle through the same troubleshooting steps multiple times.
Off-Topic Responses:
The agent frequently addressed unrelated issues (e.g., bank verification notices) that were not part of the current task or user query.
This led to confusion and wasted time, as the agent would attempt to fix or discuss components that were not relevant to the problem at hand.
Failure to Maintain Context:
The agent often lost track of the current objective, even after explicit instructions and clarifications.
It would revert to previous, already-resolved issues or misinterpret the focus of the conversation.
Example:
While working on investor classification persistence, the agent began discussing and attempting to fix duplicate bank verification notices, which was unrelated to the current task.
Despite repeated clarifications, the agent continued to loop on the same off-topic issue.
Impact:
Significant delays in development workflow.
Increased frustration due to lack of progress and repeated irrelevant suggestions.
Reduced trust in the agent’s ability to follow instructions and maintain context.
Request:
Please investigate and address the root causes of these endless loops and context loss in the Cursor AI agent.
Improvements are needed to ensure the agent can:
Maintain focus on the current user query.
Avoid repeating the same troubleshooting steps.
Refrain from addressing unrelated issues unless explicitly requested.
Steps to Reproduce
I dint know - it has recently happend in auto mode and keeps occuring
Expected Behavior
Not to repeat requests in a loop and npt to work or comment on unrelated code.
