ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID fix

If you’re receiving the error ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID when trying to install extensions, and you’re on Verizon FIOS internet, try this fix:

Log into your Verizon app
Internet → under Parental controlsHome Network ProtectionTurn Off

I struggled with this issue for months with none of the suggested fixes working until I finally discovered through Fiddler captures that it was being blocked by McAfee, which I don’t have installed on my laptop.

Hope this helps someone.

Isn’t this a problem though to turn of home protection, this sounds like an issue with cursor since i don’t have an issue with VS code extensions when trying to install them, also i was able to install extensions previously so it surely is Cursors end

Yeah, it’s just a workaround until Cursor fixes whatever the problem is on their end. Personally I don’t need Verizon holding my hand anyway, but I agree it shouldn’t be necessary when VS Code extensions work fine.
