Error: Your Conversation is too long

Describe the Bug

I updated to the latest version today, after the update I continued building my app. I entered a prompt and was met with the “Your conversation is too long. Please try creating a new conversation or shortening your message.” error. Even after starting a new chat, and clearing out all of the chats.

Steps to Reproduce

Open Cursor.
Type a prompt.
Wait for cursor to respond.
Type another prompt.
Get the error message.

Expected Behavior

I expect to be able to send several prompts before needing a new chat.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

hi @bear_fire and welcome to Cursor Forum.

Sorry to hear about your issue, does the error occur on new chat only if you add a lot of attachments? What size do they have?

This happens on EVERY chat. Doesn’t matter the size. In my attached example it was a new chat, I said “Lets add color” the AI did some stuff. Then I said “Nope don’t like it” and got the error. So very short responses are doing the same as if I posted a long error message to troubleshoot.

Thanks for the update and sorry for the issue, we are investigating.

@bear_fire could you post the Request ID of the chat where you had this issue?

Please check also if you have Privacy Mode enabled in Settings.
If yes, please disabled it for one request, reproduce the issue in a new chat and post it here so we can investigate in more detail.

Same result. After it processed a change I cannot use another prompt.

We will have a fix out for this momentarily - thanks for all the notes everyone, truly appreciate it

I can copy the same issue - it’s plan independent - I am on Ultra and facing this now again - new chat every second interaction. NO WAY to work that with with cursor! This is sadly really destroying any workflow.

Same issue still occuring here also. Any fix yet?

Same here. Makes Cursor unusable now since that update. What are they doing to this product. Switching to Claude Code

yeah im getting the exact same issues too. its happening every 2-3 turns in a convos. Its really really annoying

Same here. I believe I received an update yesterday and this is where it started.
I noticed it mostly happen after I skip/cancel a prompt/command.

Hey, sorry about that. We’re releasing an update soon that should fix this issue. In the meantime, you can switch to the previous version. You can download it here:

Thanks Deanrie, where can we follow along for this update? will you post here? or do u have a feature toggle on ur end to turn it off

Downgraded now. But my understanding is there’s no “official” way to opt-out of automatic updates, was the release pulled? Or will the issue automatically re-instate itself later today?

This update was released by mistake, and you shouldn’t have received it. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused. The release has been canceled, and users without early access enabled will no longer receive this version.

I’ll report this here, and I also believe it will be fixed in version 1.3.1.
