EVERY OTHER MESSAGE: Unable to reach [Anthropic/OpenAI] Provider was unable to process your request. Have to restart cursor to work 100% of time

Today I’m getting the response after hitting send, try again, new chats, new windows, no matter what I try, I got a consistent “generating…” and then “Provider was unable to process your request”

This only started happening today. And it’s consistent. If I waiter after a while, it will allow one message to go through as if it’s not utilizing a slow request properly, it’s just saying can’t do it after a few seconds of trying.

After a while one message may go through. I’ve tried switching LLMs, it will say unable to reach Open AI or Anthropic depending on the LLM.

UPDATE: it seems if I quit Cursor, start it again, then it will run for a while until it happens again. When it does, after restarting Cursor it’s normal.

Potential Trigger: switching chats or starting new chat.

  • When the issue happened, i had not switched chats. i had just entered a second message

UPDATE: Every new message hangs up and after restarting cursor i can resend the message.

I am getting the same issue with no answer from anywhere either.

Hey, this might be related to MCP servers. If you have many of them, try disabling the ones you don’t need at the moment. This should help.
