Feedback: Agents window editor panel collapse behavior

One thing that I find super annoying in the new agents window is the behavior of the right sidebar panel.

I really hate how every time I start a new chat the sidebar editor panel goes away.

Like sometimes I might have a few lines of code selected and I want to add to the chat, but I want to add it to a new chat (instead of the current one) then if I do cmd+n to make a new chat, the right panel closes and what if I had something in the existing chat input it disappeared.

So there’s no way to easily reference the code that I had. I have to start a new chat and I have to go open the editor files again in the right panel, find it all over again exactly where I was, just to start a new chat about a specific piece of code - this is super annoying.

Ideally, I think that the sidebar right panel should be kind of per workspace, so that if If I’m in a workspace and I have it open, even when I change through chats within that workspace the right panel would remain open.

Hey, thanks for the detailed feedback. The scenario is described well.

This is a known behavior, and we already have feedback on it both internally and in a couple nearby threads: Is there any way to have Agents and Editor windows open at the same time? and Cursor 3: Agents Window. Right now, closing the right panel on Cmd+N is the default by design, but the idea of persisting it per workspace, or at least when creating a new agent on the same branch, is being discussed. There’s no timeline for a change yet, but I’ll add your post as an extra signal to the existing report.

If you find any edge cases or have thoughts on how it should behave when switching between chats in different workspaces, share them here. It’ll help.
