Fixed tab strip and sidebars for each tabs in Agents Window

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

Please consider organizing and grouping the file tabs in the Agents Window. The “Files” term is used in many places, but it actually only represents one file. It would be helpful to add a second tab strip or a vertical sidebar for the opened Files tab to prevent confusion with the terminal and browser tabs and manage the tab chaos (Terminal is like that already). Having a fixed top bar with main tabs like Changes, Files, Browser, Terminal, Canvas, Side Chat, and Plans visible by default, each with their own sidebar, would be the most effective solution.

Operating System (if it applies)

Windows 10/11

Hey, thanks for the detailed feature request. The idea is clear. Instead of one flat row that mixes file tabs, terminal, browser, canvas, and side chat, you want a fixed top row for the main tab kinds Changes, Files, Browser, Terminal, Canvas, Side Chat, Plans. Each one would have its own sidebar or sub-row. You also called out that Files is confusing, since in practice it is one file per tab.

Both points are noted, both the tab organization and the unclear Files name. We’ll keep this thread as the place for votes and feedback, so if other users have thoughts on a specific layout, they can add them here.
