I seemed many of you will see this problem once/twice in a while. “Loading chat” forever. It happened whenever Cursor is closed or disconnected from ssh or crash whatever.
And since Cursor still do not keep your chat on cloud or for any performance/privacy reason (but others did already like Anti…)
Anyway, I love Cursor as I still paid for it. So, I share this to you in case anytime in the future this post could help someone.
Doing this SOLVE “Chat loading forever” on my 4GB of chat.
At least before you guys give up, this is a must try 
BTW, I solve this on Windows 11, for Mac or Linux, you may need to check yourself

Make sure Cursor is not running

Locate to %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\globalStorage you will find this, and you will see something like “state.vscdb.corrupted.xxxxxxx” which is the biggest one (your chat data, you may need to backup this file first)

Then backup state.vscdb and state.vscdb.backup somewhere else, my case move it to ~/old

Then when you open Cursor again, there will be 2 chances
4.1 Cursor can load chat, which is great, you are done !!!
4.2 Cursor still “Loading chat“ forever. If you guys see this WE ARE SAME!

When it shows “Loading chat” you cannot do anything or even cannot see list of history, but you will see this “…” 3-dot menu, then click “Clear All Chats“
This is like a NUKE, but This button saves my life.
All my chats now come back immediately.
