On the Free plan the model picker is locked to Cursor Grok 4.6 Medium. But Grok 4.7 costs the same as 4.6 per the pricing table Colin posted in the 4.7 announcement thread ($2 in / $0.50 cached / $6 out), and it’s the newer model, bigger base and better on long tasks.
So why not lock free users to 4.7 instead? Free is where a lot of people get their first impression of Cursor, and right now that impression is the older model. If there’s a reason (capacity, SpaceXAI deal terms, rollout order, etc.) I’d just like to know. If not, swapping it seems like a free win imo.
