Grok 4.5 Removed?

I just updated Cursor and noticed that Grok 4.5 disappeared from the model selector. Why was it removed? I can totally understand wanting to push people to use the newest version being 4.6, but 4.5 worked better for my workflows.

4.5 and 4.6 are the same price, if that’s the reason for your question

That’s frustrating, 4.5 is the better model in my opinion for collaborative workflows.

Indeed, I compared them, and in my experience, Grok 4.5 handled code and agent tasks significantly better than model 4.6.

Grok 4.6 takes too long to reason and makes mistakes when selecting and using tools. Grok 4.5 never did that.

It will be a real pity if xAI buries model 4.5 in a couple of months and decommissions it. According to my personal observations, at the moment this is the best model for everyday tasks among all those available in Cursor.

4.5 is efficient and costs less token than 4.6

For me Grok 4.5 worked significantly faster and was quite a bit more cost efficient. I reach for 4.6 only when I need deep reasoning. Can we have 4.5 back please?

4.5 uses much less tokens compared to 4.6

Right, 4.6 just doesn’t listen to instructions on top of being stupid. Time to remove my Cursor subscription. 4.5 was the only reason I kept it so far, buggy product and not getting much value for non-cursor models compared to api price anyways.

I’m also lost for words here. Cursor is back where it made these same hallucinating decisions a year ago… Unbelievable…

Sad to see it go, but this might just be because they need to make room for a new model later this month…

composer 3?

Now I feel Cursor’s internal management is a total mess and extremely unstable. Especially with Grok 4.5 disappearing, I’ve already applied for a full refund. Without Grok 4.5, Cursor is completely useless. Grok 4.6 is nothing short of a joke — I wouldn’t use it even if it were free.

You got this sorted out?

I’m back to composer 2.5, 4.6 is worse than gemini 3.0

I took a holiday on cursor this weekend and returned today and see that the IDE is now on ‘Auto’ by default all of a sudden and the Grok 4.5 model has disappeared. Are you really kidding me here?
Are we forced into a model use we don’t want? Have you guys read the forum on how 4.5 is much better performing then 4.6 and just decide to eliminate 4.5 and force ‘Auto’.

I’m lost for words…

I hoped downgrading to 3.18 solved it, but no, this is no matter which version you’re on.

Does this stop you from using Cursor?

  • Yes - Cursor is unusable
  • Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor
  • No - Cursor works, but with this issue

The more details you provide, the easier it is for us to reproduce and fix the issue. Thanks!

Nope 4.6 is still ****-up my codebase here. Cursor is becoming useless

Musk announced 4.7 for this week. But yeah, probably moooore tokens use so more expensive eventually for us as end-user and not to mention better then 4.6 (or 4.5 in this case) I will have to see that before believing it. All these announcements are marketing based, not real product improvements…

Great marketing, terrible real‑world experience. I am preparing to move away from Cursor.

This is so sad.. I might leave cursor now for this bad decision
