Cursor IDE forces users to use the Grok 4.6 model unless they click extra steps to opt out, even when for every single other conversation I’ve selected was GPT 5.6 Sol Medium

Default to the last used / selected model. I always use GPT 5.6 Sol Medium for example.
Hi @jfangzr Thank you for the post. We do run some model nudges to encourage you to try out Grok 4.6, which we’re really proud of. Understand you may want to opt of this and you can as follows: Go to Cursor Settings in the Agents Window and then go to Agent Settings → Default Model. You can change it from Cursor Default to last used and then it will respect your last chosen model.
It is egregious that you’re pushing this no matter how proud you are of this. Such things should be opt-in and not opt-out. Clearly this forum needs to be used in order to get feedback, so hence we’re providing it. That’s why the user published it as a bug, because it is a bug and not some design choice that we can argue about. This is an obnoxious behavior.
Also found myself dumped on to Grok with no intervention on my part as all I did was update. Which should maintain my settings and preferences but failed to do so.
Maybe next time you can nudge me back to my selected model choice then please…

Well, stop it. Not everyone wants to use your Grok. Forcing people to use the model that costs more is one of the worse ways to market your product. Deleting the Docs plus this just make me question more and more WHY I keep using this product, when it doesn’t even follow my rules.
